In the power system, insulating rubber mats in distribution rooms play a crucial role. They are not only a key barrier to ensure the safety of power workers during operations but also an important factor in maintaining the stable operation of power equipment. So, what are the specific standards and specifications for insulating rubber mats in distribution rooms?
The choice of material for insulating rubber mats in distribution rooms is fundamental. They are mainly made of insulating rubber materials such as NR (natural rubber), SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber), and IIR (isobutylene-isoprene rubber), which are non-polar rubbers with excellent insulating properties. These rubber materials have good insulating characteristics, effectively preventing the conduction of electricity and providing a safe insulating environment for power operations. For instance, in high-voltage distribution rooms, high-quality rubber materials can withstand high electric field intensities, reducing the risk of leakage and ensuring the safety of workers.
Regarding thickness, different voltage levels have different requirements.
For a 5kV voltage level, the thickness of the insulating rubber mat is typically 3mm; when the voltage reaches 10kV, the thickness should increase to 4mm; at 15kV, it is 5mm; and for 20kV, it is 6mm. The color options include red, green, and black, etc. Sufficient thickness ensures that the rubber mat will not be punctured in high electric field environments, providing reliable insulation protection for workers standing on it.

Appearance standards are also crucial.
A qualified insulating rubber mat should have a smooth and flat surface without obvious scars or unevenness. Any defects may affect its insulating performance in practical applications and even cause local leakage, posing a threat to workers. Moreover, the color should be uniform without bubbles or cracks, ensuring the overall quality and performance stability.
There are strict testing standards for voltage resistance performance.
According to the national standard HG/T 2949-2023 “Electrical Insulating Rubber Sheets”, in high-voltage environments, it should be able to withstand 15kV AC voltage for 1 minute, and in low-voltage environments, 3.5kV AC voltage for 1 minute.
During the testing process, wet cloths or metal foils should be placed on the top and bottom of the insulating rubber mat, and the edges should be 200mm smaller than the mat being tested. Then, the voltage should be continuously and uniformly increased to the specified value and maintained for the corresponding time to observe if there is any puncture. Only by passing such tests can it be determined that the insulating rubber mat meets the standard requirements and can be put into use.
In the actual construction and acceptance of distribution rooms, domestic power supply bureaus have clear regulations.
For example, insulating mats must be laid in front of and behind high and low-voltage distribution room cabinets. For 10kV distribution rooms, 8mm thick products are selected for AC voltage resistance tests, which should not be punctured at 10,000V for 1 minute and punctured at 18,000V for 20 seconds; for 35kV distribution rooms, 10-12mm thick products are required, with an AC voltage resistance test of 15,000V for 1 minute without puncture. These specific acceptance requirements further ensure the quality and application safety of insulating rubber mats in distribution rooms, providing a more solid guarantee for the operation of the power system.
